My daughter, Mia, ran the 1500m and 3000m at the Regional Junior Olympic Championships in El Paso last weekend. She has only been running track since April of this year, so we were thrilled that she made it to regionals. On Saturday she came in FIRST in the 3000m, qualifying her for the National Junior Olympics in Baltimore at the end of the month. On Sunday, she ran the 1500m. She tripped at the starting line and was dead last for the first lap. Slowly, she started passing girls. When they rounded the last curve of the final lap, she was in a distant fourth. She was running SO hard! The girl in front of her slowed down just a bit at the end. I don't think she realized that Mia was next to her because she had been so far behind. At the last second, Mia lunged and came in a tenth of a second faster. She got third place and the chace to run in Baltimore.
